Community & Projects

Past local services projects have included:

Toronto Zontians have a long history of service to their community. We typically select each project for a 3-year term of support and donate a minimum of $7,000 per year. Our recent fundraising efforts have included: the Annual Car Rally, Christmas Bake Sale, International Women's Day Breakfast and Down East Night. Click on the links for fun photos and information.

Projects 2011

Beginning in 2011 we will be working with Sistering a women's agency serving homeless, marginalized and low-income women in Toronto. Their programs and services help women gain greater control over their life circumstances. Their advocacy focuses on changing the social conditions that put women at risk. And their service philosophy is to ensure that women's dignity is not eroded by poverty and homelessness.

Zonta Club of Toronto and Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre partner on project

Volunteers assemble birthing kits for Haiti. Volunteers from the Zonta Club of Toronto and the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre joined forces this past weekend to assemble 1,000 birthing kits destined for Haiti. The kits include a plastic sheet, latex gloves, soap, gauze, ties and a razor blade, and are essential to midwives working in developing countries.

Z-Clubs

Established in 1948, the Z Club and Golden Z Club program is one of Zonta International's longest-running programs. Z Clubs and Golden Z Clubs help high school, college and university students develop leadership skills, promote career exploration and encourage members to participate in community, school and international service projects.

With the help of experienced Zonta sponsors, who provide resources, information and guidance, Z Club members (high school students) and Golden Z Club members (college or university students) work to improve their society and the world. Z Club and Golden Z Club members plan, organize and participate in unique activities designed to meet the needs of members, their schools and the community, while emphasizing an international outlook and strong international relations. There are currently 195 Z and Golden Z Clubs in 17 countries around the world.

The Zonta Club of Toronto currently sponsors two Z clubs, one at Frank Oke Secondary School and one at Scarlett Heights Entrepreneurial Academy. Both are in Toronto.

The Scarlett Heights club was chartered in 2009. Below is a photo of the charter board and their sponsoring teacher, Gail Brannigan with Shirley Ellison, Zonta International Z club chair.
