Community Projects

Toronto Zontians have a long history of service to their community. We typically select each project for a 3-year term of support and donate a minimum of $7,000 per year. Our recent fundraising efforts have included: the Annual Car Rally, Christmas Bake Sale, International Women’s Day Breakfast and Down East Night. Click on the links for fun photos and information.

Starting in 2008, our local service project has been the South Asian Women’s Centre, a voluntary non-profit organization run by, and for, South Asian Women. Its purpose is to increase self awareness of South Asian Women and to empower them to develop their social and cultural potential. The Centre is a place where South Asian Women of all backgrounds and ages can access a variety of programs and services.

1940s Mobile Clinic for Britain    

1950s Women's College Hospital; Abortion research; assistance to Native Women    

1960s Riding programme for the disabled; Furnishings for YWCA; Save the Children Fund

1970s Services to Native Canadian Women; Portuguese Canadian self-help programme; Equipment for the Canadian Hearing Society  

1980s CNIB; Women's College Hospital; Dellcrest Children's Centre; SCOPE: School Community Outreach programme for the Elderly  

1990/91 416 Drop-In Centre for indigent women  

1992/93 St. Christopher's House literacy programme; Mortgage retirement for Interval House Annual

1994/98 Big Sisters of Toronto  

1998 on Zonta Golf Tournaments in support of Breast Cancer (with 5 other District clubs)  

1999 Equipment for CNIB Deaf-Blind in honour of Dorothy Thompson
