Helen W. Cleveland

Our Charter President in 1927, and International President 1930 to 1932. Helen was the first female Investment Advisor in Canada, heading up the 'women's department' at Wood Gundy. Helen is credited with organizing the first of the European Zonta Clubs, in Vienna, Austria and Hamburg.

Margaret P. Hyndman
|
A charter member of our Club, Margaret Hyndman, O.C., Q.C., D.C.L. and Barrister, was awarded the Order of Canada for her distinguished service to the Canadian Bar. Throughout her career, Margaret fought for women's rights, advocating equal pay for equal work before the highest courts in Ontario and Canada. Margaret fought and won the right for women to sit on juries, incorporated the Consumer's Association of Canada, represented aboriginal women at the Supreme Court in the question of individual and group rights and established the first legal aid system in Canada.

Dorothy A. Thompson
|
Dorothy joined the Zonta Club of Toronto in 1929, and remained a vibrant and committed member until her death in 1998 at the age of 103. Honoured by Zontians worldwide as the 'Organizer Extraordinaire', she filled her retirement years travelling the globe and organizing a total of 35 new Clubs in such diverse countries as Australia, Scotland, Bangkok, the Philippines, Africa, Tasmania and Canada.

Doris Tucker

Doris was a proud Zontian, and charter President of the Zonta Club of Toronto II. When Margaret Ketchum approached Mayor True Davidson about founding a Zonta club in East York, Mayor Davidson turned to her and said "Doris, this sounds like an ideal job for you". Doris accepted and threw herself into the role, attending nearly all International Conventions, District Conferences, Workshops and Inter-city events.
She served as City Clerk to eight mayors of East York, and spent her entire working life of 46 years with the Borough of East York. This dedication did not go unrecognized. Doris received numerous awards and citations from both the province and the municipality, including a street named in her honour.

Holly Anderson
|
Our current President and past Amelia Earhart Fellow, Holly joined the Zonta Club of Toronto in 1987. A Professional Engineer, she worked for Ontario Hydro/Ontario Power Generation for many years, analyzing flow induced vibration problems and developing instrumentation and methodologies to enable trouble-shooting in Ontario's power stations. She recently moved to a new position in the nuclear industry. Holly has served for over 18 years, 10 as chair, on the international Amelia Earhart Fellowship Committee.
